Coming Events at CVN Weekly by jdb_educator, Managing Editor Cybertown Virtual News IS CVN

May 31/03

This is: Issue 21 of edition 5 of CVN Weekly (#128)

Yup! Another busy week. Where oh where does the time go?

In and around Cybertown it just goes up in smoke, once you start chatting and playing! It is a delight. There are so many people to meet and greet and so many people to coordinate with for activities. Anymore, when i click on that connect button, I feel i am in Cybertown. Most of the people I chat with are in or have been in Cybertown and so..I'm beginning to feel Cybertown IS the Internet, instead of it being just a small, fascinating part of the web. Ah well, it is indeed my internet! This week's issue has some fascinating developments. From The opening story/ad for Bank support of Cybertown All city activities, through the start of our Housing changes series through more wedding pictures, we do indeed have news for our viewers. Do check out our regulars and irregulars to see what is fresh and what is not. Next week, hopefully we clear out some deadwood and begin a fascinating summer!

Next week it is adventure time as we will board the AMTRACK in Albuquerque, and begin our summer vacation to San Francisco, Norman, Oklahoma and Springfield/Galesburg, Ill. It will be interesting to see if I get next weeks issue up! All is in doubt(grin) No laptop, no web cam, no digital camera...yet. May 24, 2003

Memorial Day is Monday. Well lol the Legal holiday, anyway. It is indeed a special day for anyone who has been in war, had family members, friends or other favorite people they have lost in war. See our front page story for a little history. In other CVN news, Elfy is out with another issue. he is demanding more CVN cookies. *sigh* That Elf is insatiable! but be sure to read his issue while the cookies are hot! We are advised that the business section will be up later this week, and there is bound to be tons of news throughout and about Cybertown. Here, School is out! Now all I have to do is get ready for our trip! Eeps and no working laptop yet! Life is getting more interesting by the day. See you next week!

Sad news to report. Flyby, known in real life as Steve Kash, died in his sleep. We have that as our lead story this week... Our hearts and prayers go out to all of his family-in Real Life-and in Cybertown. We have a small article on his passing, celebrating his memory.

Another town meeting Next Week is planned.. Sounds good. Should be informative and provide lots of opportunity and thought for our citizens. These meetings are always good, and worth the time to read, listen ad view. Likely we will have the text for you!

From what I can tell of Cybertown,- blessings to those who keep this weekend Cybertown editor informed- Activity, membership and fun are all on the rise. That is as it should be for the best vitual world on the Internet. Now to the imprtant news *grin*.... only 4 1/2 days of school left here. *savoring the prospect of summer vacation.*

May 11/03

This is Mother's Day. Be sure to give that real life person in your life-real and/or virtual a greeting, thought, sharing or gify, as is possible. Try to make that a daily or weekly activity. No one ever knows how long we will have our special people around and actually in our lives. here are five starter messages for you to consider using to begin your message: Just a simple thank you for all you have done for me Bless you Thank you is just not enough There are so many things I want to share with you, here are just a couple for today. You are so important to me, that words are weak expressions of what I feel. Here is an attempt to explain. Then add a link, send a card, make or buy a present, and get it delivered! A kind note, a kind thought, a special memmory, even simple presents can all become treasured memories for any person who is important or special to your life. *psst and it doesn't matterwhether that is in-virtual or real life.

There are so many kinds of families and so many ways of life, it is impossible to suggest your best action. Nonetheless, Without your mother, you would not be alive! That alone is worth a pause and a thought! Regardless of how you find your life at the moment you read this, It will change. You will change. All possibility, hope, dreams you have and thoughts for your future exist because you exist. Yes, your pain too. For without pain how could we ever recognize joy and pleasure? Think about it, whether it is for the first time or the millionth time. It IS always worth the reflection.

My goodness what a weekend! As I sit infront of my computer in the computer room listening to the whirr of electronics that direct my internet life this Sunday, I have paused to become philisophical. (No surprise to my friends online or offline.)LOL and I am far from done on the philosophy! So click off or read on!

I have just spent hours in the gathering and editing photos, stories, capturing chats, setting up web pages and once again, I am reminded so much of those people-dear people- from Cybertown who take the time to help me provide each of our readers the Weekly news and information on activities within our Virtual World. Their time is as precious as yours and mine. I can only hope that they have had some fun this weekend as I have had. Are you spending your online time doing tasks and efforts that are fun for you? Are you happy? Do you feel you are helping to build our "Our Civilization of the Future" or do you feel alone, isolated, out of touch?

Life is about the choices we make. What you choose to do means there are lots of other things, activities, tasks and jobs that you cannot do. If you need people, look for them. If you need jobs or tasks, look for them. There are many many people who will be delighted to get to know you. Many other opportunities will come your way too, if you are open to trying them. Just realize, every time you say "no" an opportunity is lost. Every time you say "yes," another new adventure is awaiting your participation. Here in the City, many iof us often say that " It is amazing how much Virtual Life is like Real Life," and that is true. Live your life to the fullest, and explore.

May 4/03

May has begun. The Ambassador Ball is coming NEXT SUNDAY! Thoughts turn toward the end of school. Some colleges will finish this next week. My school goes until May 23rd. Until then It is [grin] one week at a time! so until that moment I shall plod along, as always. BTW, Neat things are happening in Cybertown. We have just gotten word that new housing is coming to the mall. CVN is developing stories on this and gathering sample screen shots with permission, of course. We hope to bring this story to you soon. In the meantime, We have started developing a screen shot tutorial offering freeware we have found, been given links or otherwise discovered somehow and that we have used for several years.

This week we have Adventure colony celebrating their birthday, The Ambassador Ball coming NEXT SUNDAY, a nice calendar of Events for my hood-Healing Arts-in Inner Realms, a great Virtual Worlds party coming May 23rd. Check out the boards and surprise people by just popping into a party! lol always remember to "play nice!" See ya next week.

April is almost done. Amazing! We have lots for you in this issue and our sections. One of these days we will take a vacation and focus on the backlog of those to do thingies that never get done!

This week we have pictures available from zoo, petite_artist and Mr Phillip. Enjoy those beautiful egg avatars! I have been working on my 114 screen shots of the event. lol I made a 32 meg Microsoft video that I don't think I'll upload that... IrfranView has a feature for making screen shows that i played with, it is around 5 megs. I'll keep working on that one. The screen shots show how slowly loading in CT can go for us dialup peeps and there are some wonderful pics I have been editing and converting. Next week, maybe I'll upload! My friends pictures must come first! Thanks Mr. Philip, petite_artist and zoozee,

My oh my what a load of stories. This week as we complete issue 17. We have stories on corporate sponsorship, Activities like the Ambassador's ball coming. Reminders of promised activities from Hawk-and CVN is responsible for one! Lots of stories and pictures... Have a great week!~jdb

April 19/03 Last week was an amazing meeting. Hopefully you have read our story and seen our pictures. If not. They ARE still present in this issue and will remain in the archives. This week finds lots of little news and many activities. We hope all citizens will make it to the eggstavanza and some of the other activities in the city as the Western Christian world celebrates Easter. There are activities all over the place and we are getting more of them posted. The big long term news in this issue is a marvelous homebuilder's book updated by Tinas, with the original creator unknown at this time. This gem of a book gives you access at a click to many of the city, colony and other message boards ion the city. It saves some travel time and many extra clicks. there is a limited supply at Tinas club. And, of course we provide the link in our story!

April 13/03

Today we have another city meeting with Hawk. As always it is bound to be interesting and informative. We will try to get the text and story to you as soon as possible. This week we also have some lovely photo collages from the wedding of Wolfbringer and angeltigeress by petite_artist, from last weekend. We also have a sob story that caught our interest enough to play with making a web page out of it for you and present our newsbyte page, with short news. The ads have been updated once again, as well. And before I forget, last week Elfy updated his page to April after we published the weekly, so fun pages are available!

In other CVN News, We now have 88 members in VNN and several responses have been received about both the look and function of that site. While the set up for it may be somewhat complex, and Zoundite continues to improve it, the possibilities for ongoing news, breaking news and sharing of information lead us to say that VNN is an important addition to Cybertown readers and viewers.

April 6 Best laid plans of men, mice and CVN Editors often continue to go astray... Living without alll my software is unbearable! Fortunately in most cases I have free downloads or new software to play with, but putting together a weekly doing that is a definite challenge! LOL If you have noticed the different sections of our magazine, you can see that independence is definitely the nature of our creative workers. Although we only mention Iraqi war news in Editorials many others added it as prominent to their sites.

March 30

Best laid plans of men, mice and CVN Editors often go astray. This week was a planning disaster as two computers went to the shop and my upgrade required lots of tinkering and downloading. Nonetheless we do have news! Rkgbiolgst38 is back at it after a strenuous Real life! She has completed her April/May Dark Krypt and begun work on the Writing Zone. Blondie-101 is getting settled in her new home and is working on 9 th Dimension. b1a1b has submitted an article for 9 th dimension this week. Sammi (Samantha, our petlover4life has sent us an online school paper on Verona with pictures for which she got a 98% despite telling us it was among her worst work. We say " You go, girl! It can ONLY get better!" Then We have my column here and a couple o new stories like our lead CEN story. Thanks to Space10045 we have an update on the colony pages too! So read and visit often and have a great week.

Early is better than later in my estimation! So We hope you will check the links for the news. Our front page is pretty bare. We do have an editorial and a picture story for you, and whatever else our section editors have published/will publish this week... The CVN Weekly News will be kind of thin this week. The reasons are simple:

Time, time, time...Mere moments are all we have, create, steal and make. The things we do mean those many other things we cannot do! As a result, it is up to the many sections, diverse newsletters to provide content upon their links. A simple email to me will allow me to spotlight those additions in an email to our readers. I will not have time next week to review all the stories. One person can achieve a lot in a small amount of time. To run a regular newsletter on a daily or weekly basis or even monthly, takes lots of effort a lot of friends willing to help and a constant supply of new, interesting, fun content.

This week my focus has to become administrative. (Takes a Richard Nixon pose with hands held high in a V for victory sign showing from both hands AND two fingers on each hand) "I am the Managing Editor" this being states. (The tone changes to a LBJ Texas drawl) Ma Fellow Cytonians..." (then reverts to normal-whatever that might be!) "There are too many promises out there, not to complete the dismissal notices, provide the appropriate rewards and apply for titles of many deserving folks, some of them may even continue to write for you!"

Although this whole Virtual thing is fun, flexible and pretty risk free, there are obligations that any leader must find the time to complete.

Next week, I travel to Silver City, New Mexico to take the certification test for Bilingual Education. It is without a doubt the craziest way to begin Spring Vacation that I can think about not to mention actually do! LOL I could/should stay home and play on and around Cybertown all week. Sounds like more fun to me!

However such is what happens here on earth! While I doubt that I will use that certification; it never hurts to add to the paperwork of credentials in education or any other field. (Adds with quiet laughing) I never thought I would ever teach Special Education again, either And now am teaching the lowest level of children with the highest level of needs. I wish I could introduce you to each one of these awesome children, but earth law and common sense tell me that will never happen. I do encourage you to get to know and understand such children and grown ups in your own community. There is amazing value to each of these people. They have much to teach us about the human spirit. This differently abled people are truly special in all the good sense of that word special. I hate the spring at CVN. It is time for massive layoffs, house cleaning etc. *looks out the window, long sigh* But then, Such is life. names will be dropped from our title lists. Those who wish may move to some of our inactive groups (CVN Weekly, freelancers, or back to our cub-reporters group at yahoo. Many as yet uninvited writers will have the opportunity to join CVN at yahoogroups, sign contracts and be exposed to some of the most fun we have in creating stories, articles and getting to know each other.

Our annual CVN spring cleaning of titles has now arrived. We will have several redesigns of our CVN game that will permit those players who only want to get published but do not want to chase titles an easy way to keep up with CVN changes. Likewise we are planning changes, like contracts, that will be interesting and we hope fun for both our long term players, our "I want a title players " and our now and then writers. Stay tuned!

So there you go, read on and enjoy :) Be sure to come back next week or even more often this week!

***** Here at CVN we have lots of new activities and pages developing. All the CVN Deputies agreed everyone in management should have their own page or section! As we continue this dynamic experiment in Internet journalism, We hope you look forward to more and varied content, lots of activities and neat contests from around the city.

Our focus is simple: fun, entertainment, good and reasonable content, and the improvement of writing. Our goal is to report the news in Cybertown that does not duplicate the Daily News or would be more appropriate for this magazine format.

CVN Weekly will claim no responsibility for what other people have on their site. So caution in exploring those URLs is recommended and even urged. We received notice of some CT "offensive language" but do not see ourselves in this publication or the monthly as required to eliminate such websites from our use. People can always find something offensive if they choose to look far enough, or click on other pages than we send them to read. Our focus is on the article we present, whether in the weekly or monthly. Obviously we try to avoid an over abundance of the too often used "bad words" simply believing their use shows a lack of creativity and poor selection of word choices available. However our thanks do go to those correspondents who alert us of possible errors in judgement, or other errors they may catch for us, ranging from html to dead links. Several of our Cybertown friends have pointed out dangers and concerns in the past. We treat each notification as serious and think, before we respond. Since we are truly independent of Cybertown, we recognize that Cybertown is not responsible for our actions, and do URGE common sense and caution in clicking on ANY url of our publication here. We are certain that you would have to explore thoroughly to find bad language at all in the Daily. The Daily News is the official site news for CVN. The rest of our publications are citizen written and supervised, providing practice for those interested in developing journalist or cyber publication skills.

Job openings and possibilities are, as always, wide open. Anyone who wants to play, learn, grow, and work is welcome. A request for a job, or application and two contributions to our news organization that we publish in the Daily News or the Weekly News are required for Cybertown titles and virtual pay. (The only kind we can afford!) See our Job Openings or send a CVN application !
