It was a pretty good story, and although it was not as good as the book, it is still pretty good for a day out at the cinema. WARNING - if you take little ones, take lots of popcorn to keep them entertained for 152 or 3 minutes. Boredom may win the struggle.

Having read all four Harry Potter books before going to see this movie, I was hopeful that it would be as good as the book. Let me tell you, this movie is LONG! Although it goes for two and a half hours, they left quite a lot out of the movie, and that didn't really help the plot. In the book, I seem to remember two or three Quidditch Matches, but in the film, there is only the one, and without knowing what it is all about, from reading the books, you could get very lost. But, the plot was still almost as good as the book, only lacking in one or two areas. The acting by some actors was wonderful, and not so wonderful from others. When Harry was buying his wand, John Hurt stole the scene, and Robbie Coltrane also put up a good show. The three main characters, Harry, Ron and Hermione all looked as if they were reading emotions from a cartoon sketch, but still managed to pull it off, only failing in a few scenes. Maggie Smith forgot her Scottish accent in one scene, but apart from that, she put on a good impression.

RAC1 gives Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone… 8 out of 10!
