October's Tip

--- October 21 --- This month's tip is short but I feel it's important as I see so many that miss it.
The tip is this: people tend to place far greater credence over what other people say about you than what you say about yourself.
And yet what do we see when we go to so many web sites? The person or company describing what they do or what they offer themselves, or having someone else describe them but obviously written by themselves or by a PR person.
What is one of the very first pages that people go to when visiting a new site (if they stay that long)? It's the Testimonials page! People want to know what others have experienced with you. So your best testimonials should be one of the very first things they see when they come to your page.
Additionally tied in with this, people believe recommendations from friends far more than they believe advertising messages.
"78% of people trust peer recommendations for products and services that they BUY. Only 14% trust TV/radio/print advertising." [source: Socialnomics]
So if they also see testimonials from their friends, all the better.
I hope you can use this information to increase the effectiveness of your web site.

--- October 21 --- Early voting in Hobbs went well. It will continue until November 3. The same last date for receiving absentee ballots.
--- October 20 --- General Early Voting in New Mexico. Today more polling places open for Early Voting. So far 56, 000 votes have been cast. We will go to vote today. There is a party at our local Democratic HQ. Our goal is 100 voters! Please DO vote, when you can, where you can! --- October 19 --- News page and recipes are updated. --- October 18 --- Five Popular Election Myths has been added to my political page, along with two short features. The other pages will wait for tomorrow! --- October 17 --- Sometimes it is as satisfying to delete stories as to write them. Today I deleted a bunch. Now its time to update the other pages. National Novel Writing Month NaNoWriMo!!!

--- October 1 --- We look forward to our annual effort to write a novel in one month! Today we received a message from the Adelaide, Australia group, letting us know they are getting ready! You can join me, and perhaps some of your friends too at http://www.nanowrimo.org/ There are groups all around the world, and we are members of several groups. Crashworth, the moderator for the group emailed: Spring has sprung and my calendar has ticked over, and reminders have begun flooding my various calendars with warnings about a time approaching that incites fear in some and joy in other. Yes that's right, NaNoWriMo 2012 is almost upon us! Our plans are to fully participate this year, and we can only hope our desktop computer will be fixed and ready to go.
Since we cannot count on anything, we have backup plans that may reduce our participation, but allow us to do the novel anyway! What are they? lol Since you haven't asked, here they are:
1. writing on this clunky laptop 2. writing on my wife's clunkier desktop 3. writing in my wife's better laptop (if I can get permission!) 4. hand writing 50, 000 words.

See if http://web.archive.org/web/20081120081600/http://www.cybertown.com/places/enter/vrml/enter.wrl works for you, it should work with the old Blaxxun Contact plugin, but no chat." We indeed tried the URL, and only had to "allow" an unverified Active X to run on our laptop in order to visit the plaza. --- September 29 -- We received an email asking a question and offering a hint: "Just curious, are you in the Facebook group Cybertown Anonymous? I have been up to some ... shenanigans there, that may be of interest." That led us to the Cybertown Anonymous group on Facebook. Here is a an archived version of the Cybertown Plaza, and more, we think. Grab your 3d world renderer and gooooooooo...: Sadly, we got this message: "Sorry, to use ABNet you need: Adobe Flash and 3D BS Contact plugin version 6.1 or greater After you install these components, close all Internet Explorer windows and try again." Cybertown's site remains down --- September 17 - 30 --- Cybertown remains down --- September 16 --- Images were up in the morning, gone in the afternoon. Today, September 16, Cybertown images and html pages returned again during our online page checks this morning at 8:48 AM (EST) only to disappear around 2:30 PM as we worked on our daily news. At least they were gone on our three browsers used to check. --- September 1 - 15 --- Nothing new discovered. The password/email that used to highlight when logging in( not the login) does not highlight anymore. A password error, also used to note any login error, does not respond. --- August 29 - 31 --- For me the login does not highlight when I try to login, nor on the main page do the clubs try to hide before I can click. There is still no 2D/3D access, but these may be improvements. It is nice to have the images and secondary pages back. I tried a couple times this morning, August 29, to check Cybertown.
