All European citizens , the euro (or € ) comes on 1st January 2002.

There will be 15 countries joining in on the Euro ( see below for some of them ) :

Belgium , The Netherlands , France , Spain , Portugal , Finland   and many more.

The Euro is expected to become the strong currency in Europe, aside from the U..S. dollar and other strong currencies. The ‘normal ‘ country   currencies, will be gone by June 2002, at the latest ( or even earlier ). Then   it will be the Euro alone that Europeans and visitors will be paying with. Some countries don’t want to join the euro. The new currency will be a bit of trouble in the beginning, but when we know how to deal with it, it will be easier. Exchange conversaions will become a thing of the past.

When the euro first came up , everyone was a little stunned, scared and even some were angry. Over time, many wanted to join it . Let us hope it’s going to be worth it. Only time will tell.

The great advantage of the euro is that we don’t need to exchange foreign money any more, except, of course,   for the U.S. dollar, countries that don’t join it, and other foreign currencies.   Many banks and financial industries, are a bit afraid of losing employees to this new currency, and also some exchange bureaus don’t like it eihter , because this will mean firing or « laying off » people because of less exchange business. Many people who make their living out of currency exchanges may lose their jobs.

After the tragedy of September 11   2001, many people are not so keen on this new change coming up, which of course is understandable.   The economics market is even a little unstable in these sircumstances, due to recessions, fear and of course terror.

My opinion is simple. I say : Let’s welcome the € (euro ) ! ! !
