It's very hard to fully express my feelings about the loss of my dear friend Flyby. Flyby wasn't just someone that I met around Cybertown from time to time but he was someone who I had met and interacted with a number of times in real life and with whom a strong friendship had formed. We spoke via e-mail frequently and also by phone from time to time.

I watched with awe his growth as a being from 1998 as he got more and more involved in caring for our community and the wonderful people in it, for which he felt such a deep love. He was a man I could always rely on when Cybertown was in trouble or even seemed on the brink of extinction. He was witty, bright and warm, loyal beyond belief and was always able to look at things and see instinctively what was really going on and give overviews that always put things in their correct perspective. He was and is a man that I trust 100%.

I spoke with him recently and he was still in quite a lot of pain from his hip replacement so he is more peaceful now that he is no longer encumbered by his body. Even though I miss him in the physical sense, spiritually I feel him still very much around.

May 17th is now and forever Flyby Day in Cybertown and will be celebrated every year and his house will never be deleted. Flyby, and the impact he had on so many tens of thousands of people, will not be forgotten. Live on, Flyby, my friend :)

Friend

I don't know where to begin…

Flyby was quite simply my virtual brother. The first thing that came through with Flyby when you met him was his heart. He had a natural love for people that simply shined.

I met Flyby when CT first started and we quickly became the very best of friends; writing voluminous emails back and forth and exchanging stories about our families. Every morning, Flyby, Vialle, and I shared chats with our closest friends. We often referred to ourselves as the "Three Musketeers".

Flyby, Hawk, and I met in real life on different ocassions but both Hawk and I are somewhat reserved and, never at a loss for words, it was Fly who ignited the atmosphere with hugs and laughing. It was like we had known each other for a very long time.

Flyby was a person in whom you could confide and trust. He knew the true meaning of loyalty and compassion. He was, in the truest sense, a leader of men. He was genuine.

The world needs more Flybys.

Flyby, I love you and I miss you terribly.

Flyby was one of the finest people I've ever known. His strength of character and integrity cannot be compared. He was one of my dearest friends, confidant, mentor. When I came to CT 5 years ago, he befriended this hot head and put me to work under his guidance and I've never looked back. Flyby has given me more than I can ever repay. I was lucky enough to be able to spend a day with him and his wonderful wife Bev. I've never seen such devotion, respect and loyalty between two people, they were a true inspiration that a long loving relationship does exist in this world. I have felt pain in the past, but the loss of this very special man will stay with me for a very long time. His contributions and love for our city is something I will never forget. His tolerance at listening to me can never be replaced. I will never again hear him say.."Hey Jo, where ya goin with that gun in your hand" If I had 1 wish right now, it would be the opportunity to tell him just one more time how dear he is to me, how much I appreciate his wisdom and advice, how much I admire him as a person, and how much he has touched my life. I will miss my friend, very much. You may not be apart of our physical world any longer, but your spirit will be a part of us forever.

Try to keep the Harley on the clouds and the wind at your back my friend..ride on Flyby.

Cybertown Mayor

When I received the phone call telling me that Flyby had died in his sleep sometime Friday night or early Saturday, I felt as though part of my soul had been ripped away from me.

Flyby, crashdummy and I have been such close friends for so many years it was as if together we were one. The bond was such that we would very often make the same comments at the same time and we laughed about that almost daily.

The thought of not having that 3-way bond any longer was incomprehensible to me.... yesterday. Today, at some point, I realized that although the bond will be different, it will still be there.

My soul can still feel the touch of Flyby's humor, caring, and sense of togetherness. He will always be here with me and he will still make me smile.

Every so often, I'll make a disrespectful comment followed by "oops, did I say that?" and I'll know he's giving me a thumbs up.

If you'd like to hear a short recording that he sent me and crashdummy one morning, click on the controls under this. You'll hear a sample of his guitar playing along with a hello to us, before meeting us for one of our morning chats on Yahoo.

Cybertown and the world has lost a great man. Flyby and I met back in 1998. I helped usher him in to CT as Mayor and he was always willing to do the work necessary for the job no matter what people thought of him. But what was so great about him was that he always kept his sense of humor. He didn't flinch when the Morphs came and he stood up to some of the most formidable foes one can imagine. He was kind, generous and an inspiration to us all. A wonderful father, a great friend and the best man imaginable - he has left a legacy of honesty, integrity and goodwill which shall be appreciated for many years to come. I'm honored and privileged to have been his friend

Flyby was someone that was always helping another person. I remember when I met Flyby for the first time, him and I had a nice conversation and I didn't even realize he was a caretaker until one of my friends told me. He was always such a down to earth guy.

I owe him a lot of credit for where I am today, he gave me my first City Place job at the Library, and continued to give me advice whenever I'd got to a hill that I needed help over. He also was the type of person that could make you smile no matter what.

I will miss his added cheerfulness, and the way he used to tease me when I used the phrase "huggles", always asking me what a 'huggles' was. He always had such an amazing burst of humor. Mostly I'll just miss seeing his e-mail addy in my mailbox everyday... always filled with inspiring words.

Rest well my friend, I will always miss you. The memories we made together will always hold a special place in my heart.

Much love,

Flyby-

Some people don't understand how someone can have a close relationship over the internet with someone they never met before. If I didn't experience it, I don't think I would of believed it myself.

But, it's true. Like talking on the phone every couple of days in real life, chatting online with someone for 5 years builds up a relationship. So, we connected by words, not looks. Ok, maybe both. He was quite handsome. Like a soul mate. Sharing real life experiences-good and bad. Telling stories, some funny, some sad. E-mailing pictures, sharing jokes and chatting in the mornings, laughing more than my real life friends make me laugh. Sending christmas cards 1/2 way across the world. Sharing stories about our spouses, kids, and even pets. We both shared wedding anniversaries in May, his birthday and my husband's birthday in July and his wife and my birthday in September.

I won't forget that Flyby handed over Virtual Worlds to me in 1999. I hope I made him proud.

I will miss Flyby more than he could of ever imagined. We both wanted to make the effort to keep in touch, get together for chats and share the important things in our lives. He was always there for me. We all know his favorite line "What a group!"

Nothing bad can be said about Fly. Over the past year, I've gotten to know Fly really well. He was a great person, a great friend, and a great example to us all. He will be greatly missed. Cybertown will not be the same without him. "...whatta guy..."

It is hard to believe...it hasn't even sunk in.

It is not only a day of grieving, but a day remembrance of all the contributions he made to a virtual community providing happiness to many. He will be missed...

The loss is greatly felt everywhere. Have been a bit shocked like all of you and am quite sure it can't be true, even though I know it is.

He has left behind some fond memories, some sharing, some happiness and joy. From what I know about him, that would be a very good thing in his eyes.

Blessings and condolences go to his family both in CT and in his outside life.
