Editorial:
In our collective minds every day should be Mother's Day. They brought us into this world, and that is enough of a reason. Regardless we DO hope that there is a positive female person in your life who has provided you will support, encouragement and comfort. Celebrate her, if you cannot find one in your family to celebrate. If your mother, grandmother, aunt, or just someone you adopted as a mother has been significant, has done good things for you, has been important to you,… please tell her. These are important communications. Call, fax, visit, send email, presents, anything you can come up with. If you cannot today, just do it as soon as you can. No excuses. I send my love, thoughts and feelings by prayer.

"The earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called "Mothering Sunday". Celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter*), "Mothering Sunday" honored the mothers of England."

"In the United States it started with one woman named Anna Jarvis. Jarvis was an Appalachian homemaker and she organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions of her community. She thought the day would be best advocated by mothers and called the day "Mother's Work Day".
When Anna Jarvis died in 1905 her daughter, also named Anna, began a campaign to memorialize the life work of her mother. Anna remembered that her mother said there were many days dedicated to men but not for mothers. Anna then began to lobby the politicians of the time to support a day dedicated to mothers. Anna Jarvis talked to many politicians including Presidents Taft and Roosevelt hoping they would support her campaign."

Jokes: The child was a typical four-year-old girl -- cute, inquisitive, bright as a new penny. When she expressed difficulty in grasping the concept of marriage, her father decided to pull out his wedding photo album, thinking visual images would help. One page after another, he pointed out the bride arriving at the church, the entrance, the wedding ceremony, the recessional, the reception, etc.
"Now do you understand?" he asked.
