MAYOR FLYBY's Address to the Community 15 January 2088

At this town meeting Cybertown's Mayor Flyby, supported by the City Council, responded to questions from the community at City Hall. Here are most of the pertinent questions regarding the running of the city government and Mayor Flyby's responses. Q. When are we going to have elections for Mayor? A. The City Council has discussed this issue. There are many logistical issues to face before elections can take place. Now, I don't have all the answers on this, but this is what I can tell you. Let me try to explain:

With 5 Colony's and over 250,000 people, to just 'have an election' would be complete chaos. Could you imagine 500 people running for Mayor? Minimum qualifications would need to be proposed and agreed upon. Each Colony would have to have nominations and runoff elections to select 1 or 2 qualified candidates. This must be organized at the Colony level. An election between the Colony candidates would need to be held with the top 2-3 candidates voted on in a general election. The highest vote getter could then run against the incumbent for the position of Mayor. That person would need the approval of blaxxun and the Cybertown City Council.

The term of Mayor has already been set by the City Council and approved by blaxxun, at 2 years, renewable. These logistics and more need to be worked out in order for the election of the Mayor to proceed. It is not insurmountable, but hopefully you can see that it is a bit more involved than you may think. When all of these issues are worked out, the election of the Mayor will proceed.

For the record: I was appointed, by Guy, after serving 6 months as his Deputy Mayor. I was approved by the City Council and blaxxun to serve as Mayor on June 1, 2087. My term as Mayor will end on June 1, 2089. Q. What are you doing for the Teen Council? A. Peace_Frog is the Colony Leader for this Colony. She is the liaison between the 'teen council' or Teen Committee and the Cybertown City Council. Her voice represents the voice of the Teen Committee. I look forward to Peace_Frog's organizational skills and leadership abilities being showcased by her direct involvement for their concerns as their liaison. She also works directly with Lydia, Colony Leader and respected City Council member. Q. Can we get weapons to hunt down the Morphs? A. LOL Q. Who are the city architects in the city? A. Clean & Mr. Phillips.

Q. When are you going to make a jail?

A. With this crowd we may need two.

Q. How do you get on the City Council?

A. The City Council is comprised of Colony Leaders, Chief of Security, Deputy Mayor, Mayor. Q. How come the Teen Colony Leader is not on the City Council? A. The City Council voted this down, at the present time. This, however, can change with a majority vote from the Council. Q. Will we have an election for Deputy Mayor? A. The Deputy Mayor is appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.

Q. What are you doing to stop people from leaving the city? A. The Council is trying very hard to keep the interest up. It's hard to please everyone all the time. People leave for a number of reasons. Q. Is Taz the leader of Security? A. No, ALASKALAB is the Chief of Security. Q. When is this meeting going to end? A. In closing, I would like to say that for being such a young community, we have come a long way in a very short time. Many creative ideas have been implemented and many more are on the way. This community is made up of many talented people whose goal is to make this the best place on the Internet.

Our Security Department is first rate and I am very proud of the job they all do on a daily basis. The Security department works closely with the Mayor and City Council to assure a safe and secure experience in Cybertown. Your Colony Leaders work many long hours to coordinate all of the functions within each colony. Neighborhood Leaders, Block Leaders and their Deputies also work very hard for our community and their efforts often go unnoticed. As your Mayor, I am very proud to be a part of this unique society and I look forward to its continued success. I also look forward to our next Town Meeting.
