A column by jdb_educator

Welcome to my play house! We have all heard expressions about life. Some are funny, some are serious. YOU are invited, encouraged, and requested to send your observations, thoughts and finds to CVN Weekly .

This week: Kids are...

The purpose of this column is my fun, trying out a formula, and to hopefully get some responses from readers. So far that just has not worked, at all, at all.. After this, the last of 8 columns, I may give it up as not much use. This has been an interesting task I set for myself, lol. Next week: is completely open. This is the last of this series as we move from gender to generation gap in this final column: Kids are...

My simple truth for all humans is that we are individuals. We are a mixture of different roles, personalities, skills, abilities, and desires. We have created and self-formatted our own hard disk in a multiple leveled tree that often has trouble interfacing with, retrieving, and utilizing all the tracks available to us. Scientists have said we use less than 10% (percent) of our brains. All those administrator inputs, other codings by society, and all of our individual experiences and those diverse program changes and pop culture updates made during our lifetimes change us. This is further affected by the inevitable societal, legal, and cultural software downloads which tend to make us all crazy!

The simple translation: We all have damaged sectors on our irreplaceable hard disk.

Ooooo disclaimer (you knew there would be one!-we have more than one!)

Disclaimer!

"Readers are cautioned not to read critically; they are urged to find the humor, and any proper sense of responsibility found or noted certainly was not intended."

AND

We proudly add this new disclaimer to our series, like all disclaimers, it exists in order to protect ourselves-the guilty- to curdle your stomach, puzzle all of our readers, offer confusion to the wise, and our critics; we evade reasonable responsibility, hide from unhappy truths, keep our lawyers happy, save time and effort, provide for our common defense, etc. etc... This proclaims our innocence or vice versa…sooooo "we disclaim everything over, under, or beyond the sun."

For the squeamish, lol, I have carefully labeled the sections below as positives and negatives , feel free to ignore any extra input. People like to affirm what they "know" and ignore the rest!

(positives) Kids are:

Kids are people.

Kids are incredible.

Kids are learners. They just too often do not learn what we want them to learn...

Kids can be reasonable (yes, it does seem all too rare, but there it is!)

Kids are the future, and the parents of their own future.

Kids from 17-20 are the legal fodder of war. They become in their turn, the warriors of the world, the leaders, builders, saviors, and destroyers of what will be. Kids are, and until science and society change it, the most abused minority in the world. Currently we are beginning to get the words right, but the right actions are still a long ways away.

Kids may be redundant, but double dang, we ARE good!

Kids are constantly learning; full of dreams, desires, hopes, and possibility... Kids are partners to the sensible, who may exist…somewhere.

Kids are like fine wine: lots of different labels, good ones are often much easier to find, and are always a treasure. They have a heady bouquet, a surprisingly sweet, innocent taste and last about as long as long as honest care is demonstrated. They are always memorable...until they become adults

Kids sit on a shelf badly, and too many parents try to warehouse them.

Kids start out as perfect diamonds until the world makes them rough diamonds in need of a good polish,

Kids are our hope for any future.

Kids are the true minority target of advertisers!

Kids are also adults who refuse to grow up...Go see or read Peter Pan again! ...or for the first time...

Nouns: life, liberty, happiness, pursuit, endangered species.

Adjectives, adverbs and gerunds: beautiful, amazing, nurturing, creative, different, wonderful, curious, exploring, optimistic, helpful, the future.

Verbs: to amaze, to delight, to enjoy, to celebrate, to dream of, to search for, to be with. To save, to protect, to encourage, to hold close, to listen to, to talk with, to plan with, to laugh with, to grow old with, to die for.

(negatives) Kids are:

Kids are goats! Look it up!!

Kids are the unexpected result of adult games...

Kids are NOT the way we were(as kids) ...perfect in every way...(see Bye Bye Birdie, a musical, for the lyrics)

Kids are the present, past and future targets for every kind of recruiter on the planet.

Kids are the destruction of emotional peace, the source of incredible expenses, the inexhaustible target of most lawyers, politicians, etc who want to show how caring they are...

Kids say no! *waaaaaa

Kids say yes!!!!

Kids give permission, take away permission, and pretend permission doesn't exist.

Kids give something and expect everything in return!

Kids don't support their parents in the lavish, outlandish lifestyle to which they wish to be accustomed… as often as desired. *sob sob*

Kids are two faced, sometimes they have 3 or more faces! They learn well from those around them.

Adjectives: nasty, vicious, evil, wicked, unknown, incomprehensible, predictable, frustrating, demanding, possessive, dictatorial,

Verbs: to teach, to learn, to baffle, to confuse, to support, to fight, to scream at, to cry about, to whine at, to complain about, to pamper, to simply and helplessly love.

Additional comments we received, edited or mangled (some in real life, some via computer):

A child learns by what is taught, how it is taught, and how they are treated during the lesson.

Kids learn by example. They see what so-called adults do...and don't do.

Absolute proof of a kids learning skills may be found in both the number and variety of excuses offered!

Teach a child by negative criticism and they WILL become critical...

Kids should do all the cleaning around the house

Kids WILL have to clean up the messes left by all past generations, unless they continue to pass it on to their kids...

Kids just don't see the point in staying kids! How many adults would like to have free housing, food, and clothing; some one to care for them 24/7/365,free money to spend, someone always willing to advise, incredible learning opportunities, time to try out something new? Of course, there ARE many children in the world who WOULD like to have that too...

Kids copy your homework, beg for help, ask for (steal) your math textbook nearly everyday you have math.

Kids are two faced, money grabbing, over sensitive idiots. They come from good stock and demonstrate their mastery of learning!

Kids don't ask for directions because they know perfectly well their parents are always wrong.

Kids don't like anything they don't like...often until they try it.

Kids complain when they miss their computer games, TV shows, music, etc. but couldn't care less when they have their friends over and talk over the same said activities.

Kids give out your e-mail address without asking.

Kids are too curious, they often risk their lives just to try something new..

Kids have to pretend they know, it is a survival trait. It is parents who tell by questions! e.g. DO YOU UNDERSTAND??!!!

Don't ask us parents what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as your unsuitable clothes, bad friends, pretty crummy things, your bad decision making or minor matters of how your life, philosophy, skills, goals and world solutions should become!

Kids know a lot more than we think, they often merely lack some of the skills and experience to use it well.

"Kids are informative, brave, smart...and that's just me!"

Question of the Millennium:

Why are the decent looking Kids who are truly good friends a bit dopey sometimes?

Secret of the Millennium:

We are all kids, unless we have allowed the world to take that from us, or have killed it in ourselves.
