Although hard choices and change may and will no doubt affect our wonderful Internet Civilization, each member-present or past-has contributed some way in developing this fascinating experience we all share and call Cybertown. So without further ado, we present a Real Life Never Ending Story, Cybertown."-jdb_educator, Managing Editor, CVN]
Being faithful to one's principles is something which has everything to do with the Star Trek quote, the main commandment in the original Cybertown : "The need of many are far more important than the need of one" Cybertown is our home, a place we love and its noble ideals shall be preserved. I present here Hawk's ( the Founder) biography. It is the golden key to this historical summary.
Tony Rockliff, Founder and Producer, Cybertown
(Updated and edited as of 10/5/02)
With his partner Pascal Baudar, Tony started Cybertown in 1995 as a chat-based portal community with a sci-fi theme. They grew it to the point where it was acquired by 3D community software maker and enabler, blaxxun interactive. The community went 3D with a 2D java chat. In mid 1998 Cybertown started collecting registrations, and membership is now over 991,000.
Cybertown experienced 500% growth as it reached 300, 000 citizens and usually has around 400 to 600 simultaneous chatters and many thousands of people with jobs or at least job titles in the town. Cybertown has had, has and will have many partners who now and in the future are likely to have significant presence in the growth and development of the Cybertown community.
Tony's functions include the planning and co-ordination of community operations, engineering, marketing, business development, graphics and VR and the overall expansion of the community as well as interacting with the community residents as founder. Prior to his work with Cybertown, Tony was a multimedia producer, and prior to that a record producer with 20 years experience and success in the music business.
This is the first part of what I hope is a never ending story, Cybertown's History. There will be more, with so many very important people in Cybertown's universe, since its creation. I am still researching for more. Cybertown History is already rich, and I am working hard to bring more to you. Presently I am writing about Guy and Imagica and "The 5 from Chicago". And later I will introduce you to other very interesting people, who are or have been so important to Cybertown.
This is my little contribution to keep the flame burning bright.
