FREE GAP CLOTHES? I DON'T THINK SO by Valerie Ryan Today, I received one of those chain-type spam e-mails with the title, "Free GAP Clothes...Don't Delete! (fwd)." According to the message, I would receive a box-load of free GAP clothes if I forwarded the message to lots more people.
Puh-lease. The message stated that Abercrombie & Fitch had recently merged to form the largest outfitter company in the world, so The GAP had introduced a new e-mail tracking system to determine who had the most loyal followers. "For each person you send this e-mail to, you will be given a pair of cargo pants. For every person they give it to, you will be given an additional Hawaiian print T-shirt, for every person they send it to, you will receive a fisherman's hat," blah-de-blah-de blah.... Oh, and here's the best line: "This beta test is only for Microsoft Windows users because the e-mail tracking device that contacts GAP is embedded into the code of Windows 95 and 98."
